On, July 1, 2021, Dr. Thomas Dolan commenced in the leadership role of the North Shore School District as the Interim Superintendent of Schools. One of the most respected educational leaders on Long Island, Dr. Dolan brings a wealth of relevant experience to this role. He served as the Superintendent of the Great Neck School District for six highly successful years after serving as Superintendent of the Franklin Square Elementary District, Principal of Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Sr. High School, and Principal of Franklin Square’s H. Since his retirement from Great Neck, Dr. Dolan led Nassau Community College for a year as its Interim President and, most recently, Acting/Interim Superintendent of the neighboring Locust Valley School District while they conducted a search for a permanent Superintendent. As important to the Board as these high-level leadership positions is Dr. Dolan’s deep understanding of pedagogy and student learning gained through 14 years as a high school classroom Social Studies teacher at the outset of his career. He is committed to the success of all students and the shared values we embrace at North Shore. At every position he has held, Dr. Dolan has led with warmth, kindness, and sincerity in forging strong relationships with students, teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and community.
As we emerge from the pandemic and return to full-time in-person education in the Fall 2021, Dr. Dolan will set ambitious goals, oversee numerous capital projects, make progress on the strategic plan, and emphasize fiscal prudence in overseeing the ’21-’22 budget and presenting a ’22-’23 budget that respects taxpayers and is unwavering in its commitment to North Shore’s renowned academic and extracurricular program. Dr. Dolan will serve the North Shore School District until no later than June 30, 2022.
