Dear North Shore Families,
I hope that you are doing well.
I wanted to send you an update on the New York State Education Department initiative known as “regionalization.”
Many school districts, including North Shore, continue to have questions about the potential impact of this initiative. Please rest assured that as we obtain more information, we will share it with you immediately.
School districts have been told by New York State Education Department and BOCES officials that individual districts will have full choice as to how or if they participate in a regionalization plan. However, the draft regulatory language does not fully express this sentiment. This week, our Regent, Roger Tilles pointed out this inconsistency and the State Education Department stated that they would review it.
Please know that the North Shore Schools Board of Education and Administration strongly oppose any effort on the part of any agency that challenges the local control of our schools.
If you have questions about regionalization, please feel free to contact the New York State Education Department directly at: regionalization@nysed.gov. You can also visit the following website to access a frequently asked questions document: https://www.nysed.gov/regionalization/frequently-asked-questions.
In addition, there is a public comment period that ends on November 24th, 2024.
Please email all comments to: REGCOMMENTS@nysed.gov .
Please always feel free to contact me with any questions at any point.
Sincerely,
Chris Zublionis, Ed. D.Superintendent of Schools
