Secondary Director of Social Studies

The North Shore High School Social Studies Department helps students develop a better understanding and appreciation of history, geography, economic and political systems, and civic participation. In order to prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing global society, North Shore focuses on the development of skills such as problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. We strive to foster the qualities that will lead students to become independent, reflective, and ethical contributors to our democratic society.

Social Studies Requirements:
Social Studies is required of all students in grades 9 through 12. Regents Examinations in Global History and Geography (culmination of tenth grade) and U.S. History and Government (culmination of eleventh grade) are required for graduation. In the senior year, students must take courses that fulfill the half--‐year economics and half-‐‐ year government requirements for graduation. For students who wish to make the commitment to additional and more demanding reading, writing, and study, Advanced Placement World History I is offered in ninth grade. In tenth grade, AP World History II students continue with the second year of the course.
