Interim Superintendent Letter Posted - March 28, 2022
Dear North Shore Community,
The prospect of a County settlement with LIPA is one that we have anticipated and spoken about to the community for over 10 years. A story appears in Newsday today that references such a settlement, and it represents an area of great concern to the District, and the entire community.
Our awareness has resulted in constant contact with our elected officials and reliance upon legal resources who are familiar with this controversy and who have fought it successfully in neighboring districts. To date, those twin efforts have been effective, and we thank those local and state representatives that have protected the district so well.
We are now communicating with a new County administration, and we expect them to protect our schools and our students in the way that others have. Our determined efforts continue, and we will always keep the community informed of developments, as we learn of them. As this is being written, the District has not seen any proposed settlement and we continue to request access to it such that we can assess the impact to our district.
The quality of the North Shore School District has developed over decades of community support and effort. We have prepared for this news for years and the Board is committed to protecting our instructional program against external threats that could impact the financial stability upon which that program is built.
Sincerely,
Tom Dolan
Interim Superintendent
