Snow Day and Remote Learning Next Week
Dear North Shore Parents, Faculty and Community Members,
The predicted weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow continues to suggest that a significant winter snowstorm is heading towards the Northeast. Thursday’s forecast includes high winds, a large accumulation of snow, and possible power outages so please take the necessary precautions for you and your family to remain safe and warm. Please be advised that the North Shore Schools will be closed to all instruction, including remote, tomorrow, Thursday, December 17, 2020.
Please note that tomorrow evenings, virtual Board of Education meeting will continue as planned and begin at 8:00 P.M. It will be live streamed from our website.
Additionally, after careful consideration I have made the decision to pivot to remote instruction for Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22, 2020 for all five schools. This decision was not made lightly and we wish to proceed with an abundance of caution so that any contract tracing at school is completed before any of our students have an opportunity to visit relatives for the holiday and/or need to be placed into mandatory quarantine in the middle of the holiday break.
Since the Thanksgiving holiday, we have seen a rise in COVID-19 positive cases in the community and neighboring towns. While we all understand that in-person instruction is most ideal, the health and safety of our children, faculty and staff remains our number one priority. Pivoting to remote learning on Monday and Tuesday of next week can potentially reduce the risk of exposure to students and staff prior to winter break.
Please remain safe and warm. Be well.
Regards,
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
