Positive Covid Cases
Dear North Shore Parents, Faculty and Community Members,
I am so sorry to interrupt your evenings.
Unfortunately, we were informed today that one student at the Sea Cliff School and another student the Glen Head School have tested positive for COVID-19. Due to privacy laws, information regarding the identity of these individuals cannot be released. In both cases, we will be working directly with the Nassau County Department of Health. Specific instructions regarding mandatory quarantine will provided by the Department of Health, likely tomorrow. Both Dr. Rufa, and Mrs. Wojcik have been working with their school nurses to directly contact any families and staff members who may be considered a direct contact. At this time, I can confirm that if you have not been contacted, you or your child is not considered a direct contact at this time. We respectfully ask that you do not call the school or email us for additional details at this time.
Following guidance issued by the New York State Education Department and the Nassau County Department of Health, as well as the District’s COVID-response protocol, both schools will be thoroughly disinfected and ventilated. We have been in contact with the Nassau County Department of Health and will follow all necessary protocols to mitigate any exposure to other students, faculty, or staff and assist with their contact tracing investigation. As always, the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our foremost priority. We expect that the Nassau County Department of Health will begin their investigation tomorrow.
All schools are now closed, as planned, for the Thanksgiving Break and we look forward to seeing our students and faculty again on Monday, November 30, 2020. I wish fast and easy recoveries to all involved.
Lastly, I wish the entire community a very Happy Thanksgiving. Please be safe, judicious, and know that our restraints now will keep us together. It is said that we should go slow now in order to go faster later and I ask that we all do just that. I hope that these days are filled with good food, great times, and much love.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
