Dear North Shore Parents, Faculty and Community Members,
As we head into the weekend, I just wanted to give you a quick update on a few things. I am happy to report that there have been no new COVID cases today at North Shore High School. Currently, a total of 13 students have now tested positive at the high school and 2 staff members tested positive last week at Glen Head. As of today, we remain positioned to welcome students back to North Shore High School on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
While I have been writing this email, I just learned that there is a positive COVID case at North Shore Middle School. Due to the specific circumstances surrounding this case, the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH) has advised us that North Shore Middle School may remain open on Monday, November 14, 2020. The middle school will be cleaned as per protocols and any direct contacts will be notified. Due to privacy laws, we cannot disclose any additional details about the matter.
Going into this weekend and as the holidays approach, COVID cases on Long Island and across the Nation are increasing. Effective today, November 13, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a mandate stating that all bars, restaurants, and gyms must close by 10 pm. Additionally, indoor and outdoor gatherings at private residences are limited to 10 people.
Each day, we are also hearing that more and more Long Island schools are beginning to pivot to remote learning in many of their individual schools due to higher reported positive COVID cases. Vikings, it remains imperative that we all practice good hand hygiene, keep social distancing, and continue to wear our masks for the good of our loved ones, friends, neighbors, and colleagues - as well as ourselves. As has been reported, this virus spreads more voraciously in the cooler temperatures. We must remind our children to remain vigilant and not let our guard down.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to being #VikingStrong together next week.
