Positive COVID Cases at NSHS
Dear North Shore Faculty and Staff,
The number of positive student cases of Covid-19 at North Shore High School now stands at four. Other students, family members, and faculty/staff are awaiting the results of outstanding testing. These confirmed cases and the potential spread associated with an increased number of small and medium scale events, including a large student party over the weekend have led to contact tracing and possible exposures of hundreds of students at North Shore High School.
In consultation with the Department of Health, we have made the difficult decision to convert to a fully remote learning model for North Shore High School beginning tomorrow, November 4, 2020 through Monday, November 16, 2020. Schools will reopen to in-person learning at North Shore High School on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
All other schools will continue to open for in-person learning and the direct contacts of confirmed cases will remain in quarantine. Due to privacy laws, information regarding the identity of any these students cannot be released.
I am disappointed and frustrated, yet hopeful that when we turn the corner on this we will emerge stronger upon our return. Students and teachers belong in school and while there was no other reasonable way to fully protect the health and wellness of our community, children, and staff while in school, I fervently ask that you please wear masks, refrain from gatherings, maintain social distance, and practice good hand hygiene.
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
