My Cherished Vikings,

Today, we will conclude another year together and I want to take this opportunity to thank you.

Over the course of this past year, we have accomplished what we once thought would be an insurmountable challenge. Because of all of you, our students have flourished academically, they connected on deep personal levels with one another with purpose, have created joyful music and art, and they have engaged in athletics in ways that we didn’t think would be possible. We set our kites in flight in the most turbulent of winds, and boy, have we crushed it. We dared to dream and we soared to new heights. It is because of all of you that our schools shine so brightly. Teaching and learning is thriving in North Shore and it is because of every teacher, every administrator, every custodian/cleaner/maintainer, every paraprofessional/monitor, every bus driver, every teaching assistant, every member of our security staff, every substitute teacher, and every member of the clerical and support staff that we have been as successful as we have been- you are all an inspiration and true heroes. I’m especially grateful to our central office staff. They support me (and all of us) in ways that are often not seen and they always have your backs.  

It has been a most challenging year, and as it concludes, I send you off to well-deserved summer vacations with gratitude, joy, and much pride.

Four years ago, we commenced on a journey together that leaves me proud and profoundly grateful to have been a part of this collective adventure in North Shore. It has been exciting and we have done good work on behalf of the children we share. Guided by our shared values, our schools are special places. So, while this is likely the final time I will address you as your Superintendent, please know that these schools, and all of you, will always hold a very special place in my heart. We have proven that, indeed, “kites do rise highest against the wind, not with it.”

Please take good care of yourselves and others, be kind, and always notice the good- it is truly everywhere you look!
