Dear North Shore Parents, Faculty, and Community Members,
Last night our team met with the Board of Education to discuss the plan for our return to full time in person learning this Spring. Through a careful analysis it was decided that will be being the process of the full return of all students to North Shore High School on April 19, 2021. This provides us with two full weeks after break to account for a possible need to quarantine resulting from the break. Since all students have always been back K-8, there will be no changes to the instructional models at any of our elementary schools or the North Shore Middle School.
Our return will be staggered with two grades returning each week. For the two weeks after break we will continue to follow our current schedule.
• All Seniors and Juniors return on April 19, 2021.
• All Sophomores and Freshmen return on April 26, 2021
Families will be provided with a survey to choose full time in person or full time remote learning during the week of April 5th. Please note that there will be no blended learning hybrid option.
Students will return to full time in person learning seated at 3 feet in classrooms as per updated CDC guidelines. In person students will return full time Monday through Friday. Full time remote students will maintain the same schedule with asynchronous work Monday to Thursday and Synchronous learning on the bell schedule on Fridays. On Fridays we will connect live with our remote students. Over the next two weeks our teachers will be working towards preparing for the instructional delivery within the context of a full return to in-person learning. In addition, our mental health and wellness teams will be ready to support all students. In addition, our physical spaces are being prepared and adjustments will be made as need sot all all classroom accommodate 3 feet of physical distancing for students. Please note that much more granular detail will be forthcoming from the High School administration after the break.
In the meantime, we are looking forward to our full return and appreciate your patience as we reunite with one another after a year in a safe and healthy way. We will monitor the transition carefully and adjust as needed as we move forward. I extend my gratitude to our teachers, administrators and support staff for their dedication, hard work and persistence. They are all amazing and deeply committed to the success of our students!
Please enjoy a restful break and be safe. We are anxious to see you all again in April.
Best regards,
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
