BOE 2022-23 Budget

Board of Education Adopts 2022-23 Budget Proposal
Proposition 1 (School Budget) on Ballot for May 17, 2022
After months of reviewing the budget page-by-page, the North Shore Board of Education unanimously adopted the 2022-23 Budget Proposal on March 24, 2022. Earlier this year, trustees agreed not to exceed the cap. On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the community will vote on Proposition 1 (the 2022-23 School Budget) in the North Shore High School Gym, from 7 am - 10 pm.

Proposition 1: School Budget Proposal
The 2022-23 budget proposal is $115,964,181.54. It represents a 2.499% tax levy  increase (amount collected in taxes) which is below the New York State allowable tax levy limit. The maximum levy increase permitted is 2.624%. It is a 3.87% budget-to-budget increase from last year.

In March 2022, Trustees removed the electric buses and charging stations from the budget. The replacement of the gym floor at North Shore High School was added to the adopted budget.
The 2022-23 Budget Proposal maintains all current instructional, special education, class sizes, athletics, arts, and extracurricular/interscholastic programs. Other highlights in the 2022-23 Budget include: addition of Director of Elementary Special Education, addition of full-time integrated Co-Teacher for incoming 5th grade, addition of ILC (Instructional Learning Centers) position due to expansion of ILC program for grades 9 and 10, addition of full-time elementary position for anticipated enrollment growth, increase of existing part-time theatre position at MS/HS to full-time position, provides opportunities for math, science, social studies, and robotics competitions, expanded community partnerships with Family Children’s Association, Same Here Schools, and LICADD to support social and emotional learning for all students, additional support for counseling for ENL students, professional development for academic disciplines, upgrade to existing infrastructure to support new and emerging technologies as well as further secure the District’s data.
