GH 3rd GRADERS STUDYING BRAZIL AND THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
HS Jazz Band and HS Dance Team Teach GH Students
“With ‘Carnival’ right around the corner, Glen Head School third graders learned about the importance of dance and music in Brazil” - Mrs. Niland
On Wednesday, January 28, the children went to the Tilles Center to watch the Kotchegna African Dance Company. They learned that dance and music are important in cultures ALL around the world.
On Friday, January 30, the North Shore HS Jazz Band and HS Dance Team visited Glen Head School. They played energetic Latina music while HS dancers taught everyone how to move to the music by clapping hands, moving arms, shaking hips and stamping feet. Soon 60 third graders, faculty, and Principal Sheehan were up and dancing--- Samba style!
Special thanks to teachers Brandon Bromsey and Simone Kurshani for guiding the high school students and to the students themselves for inspiring our third graders to create beautiful music and dance themselves!
North Shore High School Dance Teacher, Ms. Kuranishi said, “It was lovely to see our high school students step into leadership and mentorship roles, while our 3rd graders eagerly participated and experienced the impact of our arts program. It was truly a special moment in their North Shore Journey when students were able to learn with and from one another.”
