NS Science Researchers Excel at LISEF and LISEF JV
2nd round of the LI Science and Engineering Fair
On March 12th, North Shore High School Science Research students participated in the 2nd round of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF). Congratulations to the following students who were invited to present at LISEF including Colin Davison, Virginia Levine, Ariana Bridges, and Leonora (Bella) Atmadjaja.
Science Research Teacher, Dr. Molly Mordechai said, “Congratulations to Virginia Levine for placing 3rd in her category for her research exploring genes involved in crop resistance to soil toxicity! Colin, Ariana and Leonora won honorable mention awards.”
In addition, a group of science research students competed at the Junior Varsity LISEF fair: Sara Shikder, Kate Spieler, Hailey Colbert, Lily Chen, Lauren Krupski, and Juliet Monte. Sara Shikder and Kate Spieler both placed second in their categories! Dr. Molly Mordechai added, “Sara built an injection locking system for laser-based research and Kate studied relationships between gut impairment and mental health in Autistic adults and won 2nd place in Behavioral/Social Science category.”
Superintendent Dr. Z said, "The North Shore Central School District is grateful for the amazing work of Dr. Mordechai in creating world class research opportunities for our students. Not only are students able to discover their passions but they are working on cutting edge solutions to some of the worlds most salient challenges. Congratulations to our students!"
“This is great news,” stated Principal Eric Contreras. “I saw our students yesterday morning leave for the competition. research boards in hand. It was such a proud moment to see their work as young scientists. Their science research today drives our future innovations and scientific advancements for tomorrow. We are grateful to be able to provide these science research opportunities at North Shore so that our students can continue to pursue their scientific inquiries and discoveries.”
