North Shore Shows Appreciation for Veterans
Administration, students and members of the North Shore community came together Friday night, 1/16, to honor the community’s veterans as the North Shore High School men’s junior varsity and varsity basketball teams took on Locust Valley. Members of the high school band performed a special playing of the National Anthem.
The ceremony took place between games as family and school district residents packed the high school gym. Attendees who serve or have served were also recognized. Principal Eric Contreras described it as “a true community event.”
Glen Head resident Lenard Scarola and his sons Angelo and Anthony, both North Shore High School sophomores, organized the event to honor veterans in the community for their service and give them more visibility.
“We wanted it to be a school event,” Scarola said, “Where the whole school comes together and throws this celebration of the veterans.”
