150 Middle School Students from Across Long Island Competed
On Friday, March 27, 2026, 150 middle school students from across Long Island participated in the North Shore Invitation Math Tournament. Fifty of those students were our very own NSMS students. The other 100 students came from Cold Spring Harbor, Half Hollow Hills, Herricks, Hewlett-Woodmere, Long Island Homeschool, Bay Shore, South Huntington, Port Washington and Manhasset.
K-12 Mathematics Director, Dr. Mattes said, “The students competed in four rounds of competition which included a STEM challenge, an individual round, team round and a mixed team round. The mixed team round is where we mixed students up so they are working with students from other districts. Awards are given for the winners of each round.”
This year, West Side School from Cold Spring Harbor won our STEM challenge. The overall team winners were: 1st place Herricks Middle School, 2nd place Manhasset Middle School, and 3rd place West Hollow Middle School.
The competition MC were two Mu Alpha Theta high school students Sofia Conway and Eva Dominguez.
Other high school volunteers were:
Zaina Ahmad
Luna Espinosa De Rozas
Brynn Paulinski
Sylvia Gao
Thank you to MS Math teacher, Ms. Kristin Frayler, and K-12 Mathematics Director, Dr. Kim Mattes, the organizers of the event.
