North Shore High School Receives Platinum Designation with Access
The North Shore School District is proud to announce that North Shore High School was one of three public schools on Long Island to recently receive the Platinum with Access recognition as a national leader in Advanced Placement (AP) as announced by Newsday. North Shore High School was the only Platinum with Access school in the county to be both an AP/IB school. The other two schools included Jericho High School and Plainview/Old Bethpage JFK High School.
Superintendent Dr. Chris Zublionis said, “We are so proud to have received this recognition from the College Board. Our goal at the North Shore Schools is for as many students as possible to engage in rigorous learning, and this is what the Platinum Designation with Access means. The amazing work of our teachers, our schools, and departmental leaders as well as our open enrollment policies allow this success to grow each year. Go Vikings! Go!”
The AP Honor Roll is a recognition program by the College Board that acknowledges schools committed to expanding AP access while maintaining or improving student performance. Schools earn a spot on the honor roll by demonstrating a strong commitment to equity and excellence in AP courses, ensuring that a diverse range of students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, can engage in rigorous coursework. The honor roll includes different levels—Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze—based on criteria such as AP course participation, exam performance, and percentage growth in underrepresented student enrollment
A key component of this recognition is the Access Dimension, which evaluates how effectively schools broaden AP participation among students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Schools that excel in this dimension show a sustained effort to remove barriers to entry, provide academic support, and cultivate a culture where all students feel encouraged to take on AP-level challenges.
