HS Environmental Club Plants Forest Pansy Redbud Tree
The North Shore High School Environmental Club planted a tree to benefit the school community and the environment. High School Science Teacher, Mrs. Laura DiLallo said, “The club researched various types of trees for several weeks and scouted out the best location with custodians including Head Custodian Mr. Jerry Boertzel”. They decided on a Forest Pansy Redbud to be planted in the cafeteria courtyard to replace a tree that was going to be cut down.”
Funding for this project was supported by the SGO and by a sticker sale during Earth Day to further raise environmental awareness. Mrs. DiLallo continued, “Members hope that the new tree will encourage people to gather outside and support local wildlife (e.g., birds). It will also absorb CO2 and is a means by which we can become more environmentally friendly as the District continues to reevaluate its environmental impact.”
Mrs. DiLallo concluded by saying, “It will be a lasting imprint on the school for our dedication to reduce the impacts of global climate change and encourage students to enjoy nature.” Thank you to everyone in the HS Environmental Club, SGO, and HS custodial staff for helping with this environmentally friendly project. Go Vikings Go!
