North Shore School District is pleased to announce that 15 students have been selected as participants for the 2024 NYSSMA All-State Performing Ensemble(s). This annual festival is considered one of the highest honors a school musician can attain.
The high school musicians include Abigail Neice (Treble Chorus, Alto1), Axel Glatt (Mixed Chorus, Soprano2), Cole Johnson (Symphonic Band, Trumpet, Part 1), Elliot Bryant (Symphonic Band, French Horn, Part 4), Ginger Sanborn (Mixed Chorus, Soprano 2), Mae Curiale (Treble Chorus, Soprano 2), Nicoletta Kenney (Symphonic Band Euphonium and Trombone Part 3), Seamus Hughes (Symphonic Band, Trombone Part 3), Sebastian Park (Symphonic Orchestra, Violin Part 1), Aaryan Vira (alternate, Jazz Trumpet), Caroline Winchester (alternate, Alto1), Erica Jud (alternate, Flute), Graham Lippert (alternate Cello), Joanna Kim (alternate Violin), and Wade Livingston (alternate, Jazz Guitar).
Director of North Shore’s Fine & Performing Arts, Ms. Dalia Rodriguez said, “We are thrilled that so many of our finest musicians will represent North Shore at NYSSMA. We are proud of their commitment and dedication to their instrument and musicianship! This is a wonderful opportunity for them to meet student musicians across the state and learn from the finest conductors.”
Being recognized by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) is considered the highest honor a school musician can attain. In order to be accepted, a musician must receive a perfect score in a formal audition performance, requiring preparation and performance of a level six (most difficult) solo, a sight-reading exam, and performance of thirteen scales. Over 6,500 high school sophomores and juniors participate each year and approximately nine hundred are accepted statewide.
Many thanks to all of the North Shore School District music teachers who work tirelessly to teach and assist our music students in their pursuit of their musical aspirations. Congratulations to all! Go Vikings Go!
