North Shore Welcomes 21 Spanish Exchange Students from Barcelona!
In September 2024, just in time for the beginning of the new school year, the World Language Department at the North Shore Schools proudly welcomed 21 Spanish exchange students from Barcelona, Spain.
Students from Catalonia began their stay with a breakfast reception and a warm welcome to the North Shore community. Many North Shore High School families greeted the 21 international visitors who will be shadowing our high school students during their classes. Ms. Ana Aguiar-Mady, the Director of World Languages stated, “The students had a great first day here and are very happy and excited!” At the reception was Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Dr. Carol Ann Smyth.
North Shore High School Principal Eric Contreras said, “We are proud that North Shore High School teaches beyond simple language acquisition. Our North Shore language programs expand our students’ learning as global citizens who are adept at cultural, linguistic, artistic, culinary, and historic understanding. Our students fully master and appreciate a world language in all its dimensions. Our World Language teachers bring learning to life in its full vibrant and meaningful context through authentic experiences inside and outside the classroom.”
We thank all our host families, the district, faculty, Ms. Ana Aguiar-Mady, and teacher, Mr. Steven Burgos, for organizing such a wonderful exchange. Good luck (e.g., buena suerte) to our Spanish exchange students!
