Passing the Torch at Glen Head Elementary School
Students, faculty, and staff at Glen Head Elementary School gathered outside on the blacktop for their annual Convocation Ceremony - where a paper torch was passed from fifth graders to their siblings including a new generation of Pre-K students who joined the ceremony for the first time! This signifies a tradition of welcome at Glen Head Elementary School.
At the morning assembly, Principal Mr. Tom Sheehan greeted his students, faculty, and staff to an exciting year at Glen Head School. He asked his K-5 students who were new to Glen Head, since it is his first year too! He also mentioned the 2024-25 school year was going to be a great year and that they were all a “family”. Fifth grade students were asked to find their younger siblings in kindergarten to begin the paper Torch Ceremony that was “lit” after the torch was passed from sibling to sibling!
During the Convocation Ceremony on September 20, 2024, the Glen Head teachers performed a song called, “I Can Be Me!”, describing their favorite pastimes. Dressed in clothing corresponding to their favorite activity, the faculty acted out their pastimes to the delight of their students in the audience. Some favorites included baking, balloon animals, snorkeling, jumping rope, and pickleball with Principal Sheehan - just to name a few!
Welcome to a new generation of Pre-K and kindergarteners to Glen Head School as well as Principal Tom Sheehan! We wish all the students, faculty, and staff the best of luck in 2024-25! Go Vikings Go!
