GH Students Decorate Pumpkins as their Favorite Storybook Characters
To coincide with Halloween, Glen Head students participated in a fun and creative event called the StoryBook Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Students were able to decorate pumpkins with their family members as their favorite storybook characters using paint, markers, fabric, glitter or other creative materials (no carving was allowed).
On October 28th, all the beautifully decorated pumpkins were due and placed on tables in the hallways at Glen Head School. They included Oscar the Grouch, The Grinch, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Three Little Pigs, Pete the Cat, The Wild Robot, The Pidgeon, The Couch Potato, and My Father’s Dragon – just to name a few! To make the contest even more impactful, students were encouraged to bring in a quarter ($25 cents) which was used to vote for their favorite storybook pumpkin! Each quarter counted as one vote, and the money collected was donated to NOSH Delivers! Food Pantry and Weekly Delivery in Glen Cove. Each class came down one by one to vote on their favorite pumpkin! Cups were placed in front of each storybook pumpkin to hold the quarters. Additionally, there were extra quarters in the main office just in case anyone forgot one!
Principal Tom Sheehan said, “This was a great opportunity for our students to practice their reading skills, use their creativity, and have fun while also making a difference in our community. Additionally, it was a wonderful way for Glen Head School to come together to support a great cause!”
Thank you to everyone at Glen Head School for participating in this fun and educational activity just in time for Halloween! Go Vikings Go!
