2024 Presidential Election at GH School
Elementary students under the guidance of Mrs. Janet Goldberg at Glen Head School have been learning about the U.S. Presidential election process. When asked, “How do you teach young children about the 2024 Presidential Election?,” Mrs. Goldberg responded, “I am teaching my students about tolerance and focusing on leadership, citizenship, and civility.”
On November 4th, one day prior to the actual Presidential election, Mrs. Goldberg dressed up in a vote t-shirt and with the assistance of the Dignity for All Club decorated the Gathering Room with voting booths, red, white, and blue streamers, ornate tablecloths with American flags, and patriotic ballot boxes!
All Glen Head students had an opportunity to participate in the school’s mock Presidential election. Prior to voting, Mrs. Goldberg reiterated the importance of the role that each citizen plays in electing the President of the United States and reminded her students that they can only vote for one candidate. Each student was given a “voting” sticker after they put their ballot in the voting box and was told that their vote was confidential.
Additionally, during weeks prior to the election, students learned not only about the election but about their leadership skills, the electoral college, the meaning of being a good citizen, past elections, branches of government, and about past elections. Throughout the day on November 4, 2024, Glen Head classes were invited to come in and cast their ballot for the next president of the USA just like their parents and family members of age were about to do one day later on Tuesday, November 5th!
