May 6, 2024
Dear North Shore Families,
I hope you are well.
May is here and we know you are very busy, but it is budget season and there continues to be misinformation sent weekly to our residents.
I want you to have the accurate budget facts below:
Budget Highlights:
North Shore has one of the lowest budget-to-budget increases in Nassau County.
North Shore DOES NOT have the highest tax levy (by either percentage or whole dollar amounts) in Nassau County and never did.
Many other neighboring districts are in the 3% tax levy range and some are over 4%, but DO NOT have the pressure of Millions of dollars of lost revenue from LIPA
The District has used $4.00 million in reserves to reduce the tax levy and saved residents over $1.5 million (in taxes) by staying below the maximum permitted tax levy limit.
The proposed budget maintains current programs for students (i.e., special education, athletics, and arts) and preserves class sizes at our elementary schools.
Traditionally, North Shore's budget vote has been close. More so than our neighboring districts. In my recent Budget Talks, I have been asked many times, What if the Budget Fails? To help answer this question, please see the chart below detailing the three possible scenarios:

This is Your Community and These are Your Schools
Please learn the facts and stay engaged in the budget process. No matter how you vote, it is imperative that you make an informed decision. The Budget Vote/Election of Trustees is Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in the HS Gym from 7 am-10 pm. Please mark your calendars, remember to vote, and tell your friends and neighbors.
You will be able to vote in person on 5/21 at the HS Gym (7 am-10 pm) or if you are unavailable, you can vote early by mail. Request for an early mail application (and directions) are available on the school website in the Voter Information section (from the Board of Education webpage) at https://www.northshoreschools.org/boe/voter-information.html or in the Central Office.
