Dear Glen Head Families,
As you know, the District has been deliberately working on a search for the next permanent Principal of the Glen Head School for several months.
This process involved several steps along the way including a rigorous screening process, faculty and community surveys, committee interviews, meetings and observations at Glen Head School, and an interview with our Board of Education. Each step involved participation and input from all constituent groups.
This process would not have been possible without the steady leadership that Ms. Alane Dugan provided to Glen Head School throughout the year. Ms. Dugan joined the Glen Head family in December as the interim Principal, after retiring from her long-term Principalship in the Bayport-Bluepoint Public Schools. As many families and faculty members have noted, Ms. Dugan has done so much for all of us in a short amount of time. I have personally learned so much from Ms. Dugan and I am so grateful for all she has contributed.
At the completion of the thorough interview process, Mr. Thomas Sheehan was recommended for appointment as the next principal of Glen Head School. Mr. Sheehan is an inspirational and student-centered leader who currently serves as Principal of the Sycamore Avenue Elementary School in the Connetquot Public Schools. He has also served as an assistant Principal and elementary teacher. He holds certifications in school building leadership, elementary education, and special education. Mr. Sheehan has led several professional development opportunities and embraces the role of Principal as lead learner.
Prior to working in the Connetquot Central School District, Mr. Sheehan served as an elementary school teacher at Floral Park Bellerose Elementary School in the Floral Park School District from 2014 to 2021 and was the school’s before-school and after-school coordinator and grade chair leader. His leadership role also extended to working as a building administrator leave replacement and leading special education co-teacher training.
Mr. Sheehan is tremendously excited about this opportunity at Glen Head. He stated: “Joining Glen Head Elementary and the North Shore School District fills me with excitement and anticipation, and I cannot wait to work alongside dedicated educators and families to make a positive impact on our students' lives. I am eager to get to work and meet everyone.”
The North Shore Schools Board of Education appointed Mr. Sheehan at the June 13th, 2024, Board of Education meeting. Mr. Sheehan’s transition into his new role will officially begin in July 2024.
I look forward to the years ahead at Glen Head School under Mr. Sheehan’s leadership and the connections he will make with our amazing faculty, families, students and staff!
Sincerely,
Chris Zublionis, Ed. D.
