GWL HOSTS FOOD DRIVE FOR NOSH Glenwood Landing Lands
Glenwood Landing 5th grade Student Government Representatives became immersed in learning about Food Pantries and wanted to host a food drive.
They teamed up with 4th grade Community Service Club Members to prepare a number of slide shows. The student-duos were assigned to K-5 classes at Glenwood Landing School and made presentations to help spread awareness by inviting students to learn about NOSH and its various food banks.
During the presentations, all of the GWL students were invited to do chores and earn their own money to purchase food for those in need. The club members also shared a video book titled, “Emma and the Food Bank.”
Ms. Marcantonio stated, “This schoolwide initiative led to over 50 boxes of food for those in need. The food was collected, sorted, and boxed. Nosh volunteers then transported the food to the Glen Cove NOSH food pantry where both clubs took a field trip to serve as volunteers to unload the food, take a tour of the pantry, and even decorate lunch/breakfast to go bags for children in need.” She concluded by saying, “This was all part of the NOSH Program called, ‘Kids Food Independence Program (KFIP)’, which helps bring about food dignity to all by feeding children breakfast and lunch even when school is not in session.”
Thank you to all those students and adults who worked so hard on behalf of people in need. Go Vikings Go!
