Mandarin FLES Teacher Position |
The job duties include the following:
- Effectively teach Chinese language courses in accordance with established and/or developed syllabi for classes of elementary students in the District
- Instruct students on the acquisition of Chinese language, reading, writing, and speaking skills through completion of the sequence of the District’s Chinese language courses of increasing difficulty
- Develop, review, and update overall syllabi for Chinese language classes for students of varying language proficiency for Grades K-5
- Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content and materials, and methods of instruction that are most effective and appropriate for students at each academic grade level as well as each level of Chinese language proficiency
- Develop, review, and evaluate individual lesson plans including designated learning outcomes, course content, course materials, methods of instruction, class activities, and assessments
- Design, evaluate, and grade students’ assignments, presentations, projects, tests, and examinations to monitor the progress of each student and assess their language ability
- Monitor and provide frequent and specific feedback to students regarding the attainment of the learning outcomes and their progress in class
- Assess the overall student learning in the class by using multiple classroom assessment techniques, document the assessments, and use the assessment data for instructional improvement
- Arrange and organize appropriate class excursions and enrichment programs that will complement core curriculum and improve students’ language proficiency and increase their interest in Chinese language and culture
- Incorporate elements of traditional and contemporary Chinese culture into Chinese language classes in order to increase students’ knowledge of Chinese history, current affairs, culture, and literature
- Keep updated with developments in the field of teaching foreign languages by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences to develop and utilize teaching strategies based on current research
- Advise students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, study habits, and career planning
- Confer with other teachers and/or counselors to resolve students’ behavioral, academic, or other problems
- Cultivate a conducive learning environment by encouraging active student involvement in the learning process and using a variety of materials and resources which enhance the teaching of the course objectives
- Prepare students for educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks
