Winners of 2023 Environmental Poster Contest
2nd Prize Winner from Glen Head Elementary School
On Tuesday, May 2nd, Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Vicki Walsh came to Glen Head School to congratulate Chloe Lim, 2nd Prize Winner of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Annual Environmental Poster Contest. This year’s theme, ‘Marine Pollution Solutions,’ asked students to show the dangers that plastic litter could pose to our waterways and various ways to solve the issue, including proper recycling. Chloe created a poster titled, “Save Our Sea,” which focused on how divers and beach goers can help pick up plastic and litter to protect the animal and plant life in our oceans and seas to ultimately preserve our environment.
Supervisor Saladino and Councilwoman Walsh honored Chloe by planting a tree in front of Glen Head School along with her parents, Principal Peter Rufa, Mrs. Bienz, Ms. Ellenbogen, Ms. Rennie, and her classmates. Supervisor Saladino said, “This poster contest presents a great opportunity to bring environmental awareness to our young people, making them more knowledgeable on the importance of protecting our waterways and safeguarding our natural resources.” Prior to the tree planting, the Supervisor spoke to the children about the importance of saving energy by shutting off the lights, reusing and recycling materials, and protecting our environment and improving the quality of our waterways.
Congratulations to Chloe Lim on winning 2nd prize for your beautiful “Save Our Sea” poster. This year’s winners also included 1st Prize Winner, Siddharth Yohan Natarajan, from Jackson Elementary School in Jericho, and 3rd Prize Winner Dhruvika Khanna from Central Boulevard Elementary School in Bethpage. Thank you to Supervisor Saladino, Councilwoman Walsh, co-sponsors, and their coordinators for visiting Glen Head School. This year’s poster contest was co-sponsored by The Waterfront Center, Friends of the Bay, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension – Suffolk County, who provided great prizes to top winners.
