    BOARD OF EDUCATION

To Be Appointed Principal

BOE TO APPOINT SEA CLIFF PRINCIPAL

Ms. Megan McCormack To Be Appointed Principal of Sea Cliff School

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Zublionis stated,”After an extensive search which included many impressive candidates, I am excited to announce that on April 20th, 2023, it is anticipated that the North Shore Schools Board of Education will approve the appointment of Ms. Megan McCormack as the Principal of Sea Cliff School, effective July 1, 2023.”

Dr. Zublionis continued, “Ms. McCormack is an accomplished, innovative, and caring administrator who stepped into her leadership role at Sea Cliff School in September by not only inspiring the faculty and staff, but also engaging her K-5 students in meaningful and authentic learning opportunities. In all of her work, she prioritizes the well-being of each individual Sea Cliff student. Ms. McCormack is a highly motivated and detail driven leader with strong organizational skills who helped implement the first Universal Pre-K Program at the North Shore Schools. As Interim Principal, she has worked closely with the administrative team to identify system-wide habits that align with the North Shore Journey.  She is passionate about student achievement and engagement, and focuses on mutual trust and teacher growth. Additionally, Ms. McCormack takes pride in building positive relationships and has established a strong rapport with the entire school community.”

Ms. McCormack shared her appreciation for this opportunity by stating, “I am truly humbled and extremely excited to be the principal of Sea Cliff School!  We encourage every student to discover their dreams, and this is certainly a dream come true! Throughout the years, the children of Sea Cliff School have been my inspiration. Their curiosity, compassion, and love for learning have driven my work. I will continue to encourage innovation and a commitment to learning while capturing students’ voices and empowering every child to pursue their North Shore Journey. I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Education, Dr. Zublionis, Dr. Smyth and Mr. Pappas for all their leadership, guidance, and support.”

Ms. McCormack has worked as an administrator and teacher in the North Shore Schools for eleven years. She has co-led a working group of the Viking Community Committee focused on the design of the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) plan for the District to provide cohesive academic and social-emotional support for all children across the grade levels. Ms. McCormack has researched best practices for literacy to ensure progress in the implementation of the science of reading. She has designed and facilitated professional development for teachers across the District on educational technology, interdisciplinary learning, outdoor learning, and performance-based assessment. Ms. McCormack helped to design and supervise the 2022 North Shore Summer Experience program and has played a lead role in writing and revising curriculum. She helped to manage the district-wide remote learning program for elementary students during the pandemic and is an active member of the Tri-State Consortium as a member of the evaluation teams that visit and provide feedback in peer school districts related to all curriculum areas.

Ms. McCormack has been part of the fabric of the North Shore Community for her entire life. Her experiences as a student in the District paved the way for her to become an exemplary teacher and head coach of our esteemed Varsity Women’s Lacrosse team. Her North Shore Journey has prepared her for this administrative role with the passion and commitment to help each of our students on their own North Shore Journey to discover their dreams.

Ms. McCormack added, “My philosophy complements North Shore’s shared values and the wide range of programming that can help mold a well-rounded citizen. I take pride in being a principal who is available, present and visible, while promoting school-wide initiatives that bring the entire Sea Cliff School community together. I love greeting our students each day, seeing their smiling faces, being in their classrooms and watching them problem-solve and communicate with one another. Working collaboratively with the faculty and staff, we will continue to provide meaningful and authentic learning experiences that will encourage student reflection and growth. I feel that my prior professional experiences will continue to empower me to be a unique, student-centered leader of Sea Cliff School. I am overjoyed by this opportunity and look forward to continuing a cohesive partnership within and beyond our school community.”

Dr. Carol Ann Smyth, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, stated that, “We are looking forward to working with Ms. McCormack as a member of the elementary leadership team to continue to develop excellent learning opportunities for the students at Sea Cliff School and throughout the District.”

Dr. Zublionis concluded by saying, “Ms. McCormack knows, and is known by, every student in Sea Cliff School. She possesses an innate ability to build positive relationships with parents and students as demonstrated by her work in the District. As a trusted and respected educational leader in the North Shore Schools, Ms. McCormack will continue to work closely with the District's leadership team, her faculty and staff, students, and parents.”

Congratulations to Ms. Megan McCormack!
