20 Students Inducted Into National Honor Society for Dance Arts

On May 30, 2023, 20 North Shore High School students were inducted in the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) under the leadership of Ms. Simone Kuranshi, Director of Dance. The ceremony began with a beautiful performance by the Advanced Dance Ensemble. Welcoming remarks were given by Kate Vanchieri (VP) and an overview of the NHSDA were stated by Axel Glatt (Secretary). Then Principal Eric Contreras spoke on behalf of Ms. Dalia Rodriguez and he announced the Officer Swearing in Ceremony.    

Ms. Kuranshi took the podium and congratulated the 2023 Dance Arts inductees. She said, “Tonight serves as a formal acknowledgement of your achievements in dance. You have earned the privilege of being inducted into the National Honor Society of Dance Arts. To join thousands of other dancers across the country in an organization that showcases one of the greatest and first forms of art known to mankind, dance.”

The inductees included Mae Curiale, Skyler Escobar, Giuliana Ferrari, Sylvia Gao, Maiko Giannakis, Isabelle Lee, Penelope Lonigro, Ava Maffei, Delilah McAuliffe, Juliana Meli, Abigail Neice, Alexa Petulla, Gregory Saridakis, Giada Settino, Alexandra Silva, Nehir Tan*, Aidan Tandy, Nicole Tom, Parker Trager, and Giuliana Zaccagnino.

The students raised their right hand under the direction of Ms. Kuranshi and took the pledge. Then the keynote speaker, Mr. David Catalano, Director of Choral Activities spoke followed by closing remarks by Melissa Palmetto, Treasurer/Workshop Organizer.

Ms. Kuranshi concluded by saying, “I’ve said it before, but I will say it again. To be a dancer is a gift. Thank you for allowing me to teach you and be taught by you. For every day I am learning from you. Thank you for allowing me to take part in your growth and progress. To celebrate alongside you and partake in your joy. Congratulations again to each and every one of you. It has been my honor to be your teacher.”
