Glen Head Fifth Graders Move Up!
Congratulations to all of the Glen Head fifth graders who moved up on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in a ceremony held outside on the Glen Head School field led by Principal Dr. Peter Rufa. The ceremony began with The Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner led by Benjamin Makin and Chloe Harding.
Principal Rufa warmly welcomed the parents, family members, and friends in the audience and congratulated his fifth graders on this memorable day. He spoke to his students about a favorite book of his, “Wonder.” He mentioned how the main character, “Auggie” Pullman, was a special child with a facial deformity that never changed his positive attitude or kindness to others. He reminded his students that, “When given the choice between right or kind, choose kind.” He continued, “Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion to greatness.”
Superintendent Dr. Christopher Zublionis was introduced and spoke to the fifth graders about three “Rufa Rules” that could help them be successful in middle school. They included surrounding yourself with people who will help and guide you, helping yourself even when times get difficult, and helping others when they ask or not. Principal Dr. Ryan O’Hara then warmly welcomed his incoming 6th graders to North Shore Middle School. He said that they will face new challenges academically and socially, but they were more than ready to succeed! He was looking forward to spending the next three years with them before they graduated from North Shore Middle School in 2026 and from North Shore High School in 2030!
Additionally, music teacher, Ms. Whitney Hackman, led the students in a song titled “Remember Me” by Jonas Brothers and later in the ceremony “Having a Good Time” by Queen.
Then the moment they were all waiting for arrived as Dr. Rufa called each of his fifth graders to the podium to receive their diplomas. As the graduating class of 2023 was announced, all of their loving parents, families, and teachers in the audience proudly applauded with joy.
Congratulations to all the students who won awards and best of luck to the Glen Head Class of 2023! Have a great summer!
