BOE Student Achievement Presentations on Humanities Elementary Students demonstrate “Fundations” at BOE Meeting
On December 15, 2022, Ms. Devra Small, Director of Elementary Humanities, and Mr. Seth Gordon, Secondary Social Studies Director led a presentation on their reports on student achievement.
Ms. Small began the presentation and reviewed areas of strengths or growth including curriculum, equity, and gap closing and areas for focus or need involving pandemic recovery, reading strength (i.e., the need for focus on phonemic awareness, vocabulary and phonics, restoration of reading recovery, instructional techniques for learning disabled and ELL students).
Ms. Small then introduced Ms. Amelia Hecker who, with several elementary students, demonstrated on stage the different ways they use “Fundations” to teach phonics and phonemic awareness. But that’s not all! The students then went into the audience and sat with individual trustees to review “Fundations” with the North Shore Board members!
Thank you to Ms. Small, Ms. Hecker, Mr. Gordon, Dr. CarolAnn Smyth and Dr. Chris Zublionis for a night of wonderful presentations and student demonstrations.
