GH INTERIM PRINCIPAL APPOINTED
Ms. Alane Dugan Appointed Interim Principal for Glen Head School
On December 5, 2023, the North Shore Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of Ms. Alane Dugan as the Interim Principal of Glen Head School, effective December 7, 2023, for the 2023-24 school year. We will hold an informal parent meet and greet on Friday morning, 12/8, at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria. If you are unable to attend at this time, please know that you will have many opportunities to meet Ms. Dugan at school arrival and many other school events.
Dr. Christopher Zublionis, Superintendent of Schools said, “After meeting with several candidates, Ms. Alane Dugan, a recently retired elementary principal, was selected to serve as the interim principal for Glen Head School through the end of the school year and will provide us with the stability needed to conduct a thorough search for the next permanent principal of The Glen Head School.”
Dr. Zublionis continued, “Interim Principal Dugan is a student-centered instructional leader who has successfully built relationships with faculty, staff, and families over the last two decades in a school community very similar to North Shore. She will bring a spirit of warmth and wisdom that will keep Glen Head School the special place that it is, and she is excited to meet you. Additionally, Ms. Dugan will be working with Dr. Rufa, Dr. Smyth, me, and other members of the leadership team to ensure a smooth transition.”
Ms. Dugan has over 17 years of experience as the Principal of Sylvan Avenue Elementary School in the Bayport-Blue Point School District where her responsibilities included supervising 60 elementary faculty and staff, implementing the UPK program, collaborating with PTA board and committees to provide enriching educational experiences to students, and weekly communicating with families and school community.
Prior she was the Assistant Principal of Oyster Bay High School (7-12) from 2004-2007 where she supervised middle level faculty and staff and worked closely with 7-9th grade students and their parents in problem areas of attendance, discipline, academic achievement, and socialization. Additionally, Ms. Dugan analyzed test result data with district supervisors to determine target areas for improvement, assisted in the building of the middle level section of the high school master schedule, developed 7th grade parent and student orientation programs, and planned staff development opportunities, and presided over the annual 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony.
Ms. Alane Dugan has had 38 years of experience in education as an English teacher, English department chairperson (6-12), assistant principal, and principal. Her graduate degrees include CAS Educational Administration from Hofstra University and MS Educational Technology from LI University at C.W. Post.
