HS NEW GYM FLOOR
The North Shore School District Has Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New High School Gymnasium Floor
On September 6, 2022, North Shore Director of Athletics, Mr. Don Lang along with the Varsity Women’s Volleyball team and coaches, participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the new North Shore High School Gymnasium floor! Superintendent Dr. Chris Zublionis, Interim Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Carol Ann Smyth, Assistant Superintendent for Business Mr. James Pappas, the Board of Education, parents, students, and North Shore community members were also in attendance.
Director of Athletics, Mr. Lang said, “The new gym floor looks really great, it’s like a whole new gymnasium!” Everyone who walks in loves it! The kids are excited, and the community should be very proud. Thank you to the Viking Booster Club and Board of Education for supporting our athletes and programs.” He added, “The Varsity Women’s Volleyball team christened the floor today, winning the first game of their match against Carey High School. We wish them lots of luck this season!”
The construction of the North Shore High School gym floor quickly began at the conclusion of the last school year. It was determined earlier that the gymnasium floor had come to the end of its useful life and could not be sanded or repaired further for safe play. Over the summer, the construction team worked diligently to build a brand-new floor with the Viking logo in the center, maroon lines, and bold North Shore graphics - just in time for the first day of classes and the fall Varsity season!
To conclude, Superintendent Dr. Chris Zublionis said, “We are so grateful to the North Shore Board of Education and the North Shore community who supported the inclusion of the beautiful new High School gymnasium floor and our athletes as part of our 2022-23 budget. While the original flooring had many memories created on it, we look forward to our students and families enjoying this space (and many victories) in the years to come. Go Vikings, Go!”
