SEA CLIFF AND GLEN HEAD SCHOOLS AMONG 2022 BEST K-8 SCHOOLS RANKED BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT
The rankings evaluate more than 80,000 public schools at the state and district level.

The North Shore School District is proud to announce that Sea Cliff School (#11) and Glen Head School (#12) were among the top “2022 Best K-8 Schools” recognized by U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings. North Shore Middle School was ranked #30. For the first time, U.S. News has published rankings and data on more than 80,000 public elementary and middle schools across the country.

Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tom Dolan, said, “Given that the scoring used to establish the top elementary and middle schools in the state was almost entirely rooted in students’ performance on mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments, this is truly an earned honor. By focusing on academics, these rankings provide parents insight into a key element of school quality: commitment to an academic program and the provision of resources to students and staff.” He continued, “I heartily congratulate all three off these Principals and their staffs.”

The methodology for the brand-new rankings focuses on two areas: math and reading proficiency, or how well students perform on state assessments, and math and reading performance, or how well they perform compared to expectations. Based on data from the U.S. Department of Education, the Best K-8 Schools rankings only include public schools. The state assessment data used in the rankings is from the 2018-2019 school year and therefore pre-dates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on test-taking.

Glen Head School Principal Dr. Peter Rufa said, “I am so proud of the work our teachers do each day to support our students’ academic development. By creating a caring and innovative learning environment our students have become committed individuals who possess a deep love of learning. There is nothing we cannot do when we are all working together and our students, parents, faculty, and staff should truly celebrate because this is a tremendous accomplishment!”
