NS Middle School Sixth & Eighth Graders Build A Hydroponic Garden!
Teacher Mr. Keith Slack at North Shore Middle School said, "My 6th and 8th grade makerspace students got together to design and build a hydroponic garden. Hydroponics is the process of growing plants without soil, using a nutrient-rich water solution.”
Mr. Slack continued, “Our first crop is sweet basil! The students learned about the advantages and disadvantages of hydroponics and the unique attributes that can help modernize farming. We are gearing up next to finish our aquaponics garden!”
He concluded by saying, “In addition, aquaponics is putting fish to work! When fish eat and produce waste, it makes for a great fertilizer for growing plants."
