NS High School 2021 Moving Up Ceremony
A North Shore Tradition Since 1941
Attended by only seniors this year due to COVID regulations, Principal Eric Contreras led the Moving Up Day Ceremony at North Shore High School on Friday, June 3, 2021, a North Shore tradition since 1941.
To a loud round of applause, Principal Contreras welcomed everyone to the 80th Moving Up Ceremony. He congratulated the school Valedictorian, Sophie Blumenthal, and Salutatorian Kate Weseley-Jones as well as announced various award recipients. Dressed in white, the seniors were excited to attend this mild stone with their peers during this unprecedented year. Most of the speakers including Principal Contreras spoke about how difficult this school year has been but emphasized how amazing the students and faculty overcame it and had grown from their experiences. Everyone agreed that it is a year that will always be remembered for many reasons!
During the Moving Up Ceremony, the Class of 2021 video was shown to the delight of the seniors! Another highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Class of 2021 yearbooks with the theme, “History in the Making,” under the direction of Mr. Bloom.
At the event, the juniors performed their musical tribute followed by the senior response. The singing of the North Shore Alma Mater and traditional Weaving Ceremony followed as seniors made their way to the front of the gymnasium. To conclude, the seniors formed the line for the gauntlet for the annual Tapping Ceremony. Deserving senior, Isabelle Butt was selected to continue this tradition and received the Faculty Honor Award.
Congratulations to all of students and the graduating Class of 2021! Many thanks to all of those who participated including students and teachers and the North Shore musicians under the direction of Mr. Brandon Bromsey. Thank you to the HS PTO Co-Presidents who presented a $500 check to be donated to North Shore High School in honor of the faculty. Additionally, thank you to all of the parents who proudly watched the ceremony via livestream and cheered on their North Shore seniors! Congratulations to all!
