Dear North Shore Families,
I hope that you are doing well and that you are enjoying these last days of summer!
Last spring, the community approved the amendment of the existing capital reserve fund project list to include the replacement of the North Shore High School turf field. At that same time, the community approved expending funds from the capital reserve fund to complete the work on the turf field.
The day after the budget vote (May 17, 2023), the District immediately began the process of securing a contractor to complete the turf replacement project. Within a few days, the contractor was secured, and North Shore took its spot in line behind other districts who had been waiting for several months for their field work to be completed.
Throughout the summer, I personally called the contractor several times each week to see if there was a way to speed up the timeline so that we could have the field work start before the school year began. Yesterday, we received word that North Shore’s turf order had arrived and work could begin immediately. While this is not perfect timing, a three-month turnaround on a project like this is very short as it was expected that the work would take place during the winter.
Tomorrow, the contractors will begin the task of removing the existing turf field and replacing it with a brand new turf field. The project timeline has accounted for contingencies and will be completed by September 22nd, just in time for our annual Homecoming Celebration on September 30th.
I have worked with the North Shore Athletics Department to ensure that home games and practices taking place from 8/31-9/22 will be relocated to minimize disruptions. During this 3-week time period, the track and field will be closed. While this is a temporary inconvenience for our athletes and residents, my conversations with parents, community members, coaches, and students over the past year all support this short-term sacrifice that will allow for a long term investment in quality facilities for our students and community that they can begin to enjoy this fall.
I look forward to seeing you soon as we begin our North Shore Journey again in just one week on September 6th!
Go Vikings! Go!
Sincerely,
