All North Shore HS Students Go to College Fair
During the first week of October 2019, North Shore Counseling Director, Mr. Daniel Doherty, along with the high school counseling department organized an informative College Fair for all of the high school students to participate in.
Approximately 56 colleges were in attendance in the high school gymnasium answering questions and sharing an abundance of materials for students to take home and/or fill out. Universities and colleges represented included University at Albany, Alabama, Buffalo State, University of Bridgeport, UConn, Farmingdale State College, Geneseo, Hofstra University, Iona, John Jay, Marist College, Oswego, Quinnipiac, Penn State, Sacred Heart, Siena College, Stony Brook University, St. John’s, and Tampa University – just to name a few! More will be visiting in smaller sessions throughout the school year.
College representatives were on-hand to answer questions about each school including the number of students, size of campus, academic courses and majors, dorm life, fraternities and sororities, SAT scores and expectations, athletic teams/sporting events, college essays and early enrollment etc.,
Additionally, North Shore Schools Superintendent Dr. Peter Giarrizzo was also at the event and tweeted in real time from his Twitter account @PeterGiarrizzo at https://twitter.com/PeterGiarrizzo the following, “Great event sponsored by @NoShCounselor for all NSHS students. No matter where you are in your process inquiries, information is always power!”
