The North Shore Schools Community Greets Our
New Superintendent, Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Parents, faculty members, community residents, parent organizations, and previous board members all came out to meet and greet the new Superintendent of the North Shore Schools, Dr. Peter Giarrizzo, on Monday, April 3, 2017. The informal gathering was hosted by the North Shore Schools Board of Education in the high school cafeteria.
Board President Toni Labbate said “I am very pleased to introduce Dr. Peter Giarrizzo to the North Shore School District. He was the unanimous choice of the trustees culminating the end of a national search led by Leadership Advantage. His dedication to educating the whole student and experience in all aspects of school management including school finance, special education, and strategic planning were only some of his qualities that made him the right choice for the district.” She reiterated that Dr. Giarrizzo is currently the Superintendent of Schools of the Pelham Public Schools. Prior, he was Pelham’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel for two years. His experience also included work as a Director of Special Education. President Labbate thanked the community for their participation during the superintendent search process and for coming out tonight.
Then Dr. Giarrizzo graciously spoke to those in attendance. He said, “I am very excited and honored to have been selected to serve as North Shore’s superintendent. Through the rigorous selection process it became clear to me that we share a common set of values about teaching and learning, and I’m thrilled to partner with you to continue on a strong trajectory of excellence and continuous improvement. The North Shore Schools are exciting places for students and I want to continue to encourage them to discover their dreams. North Shore has an enormously talented faculty, staff and administration and a very supportive community. I look forward to working with everyone.” Dr. Giarrizzo stated that he will formally begin on August 21, 2017. He thanked the Board of Education for “this incredible opportunity and Dr. Melnick for the good care and fine leadership that he has provided to North Shore.” He concluded by encouraging the community to reach out to him via email, telephone, and his twitter account.
For the duration of the evening, Dr. Giarrizzo met informally with those in attendance. For those who could not make the meet and greet, one of Dr. Giarrizzo’s immediate goals will be to engage in a series of interviews with a wide range of school community stakeholders and residents.
