GLEN HEAD SCHOOL READING CLOSING CEREMONY
Glen Head Reading Celebration Comes To A Close
The annual Glen Head School Reading Celebration came to a close on Friday, January 24, 2020. This year, the theme was "On Your Mark, Get Set…Read.” Principal Dr. Peter Rufa congratulated his students on a very successful Reading Celebration. To a loud round of applause, he disclosed with Ms. Kingsley that the 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders read a total of 64,993 minutes. K-2 Students handed in 684 Book Bucks, which added a total of 10,260 minutes to the Glen Head total. In addition, Dr. Rufa revealed that the contest winner was Nicholas Douso with a total of 65,640 minutes and that the grand total for all of the Glen Head students was an impressive 75,253 minutes.
During the month, award-winning children’s author, Mr. Dan Gutman, visited and read to all of the students. His works include the “Baseball Card Adventures” children's book series, “Rappy the Dinosaur”, and the “My Weird School” series.
Congratulations to all of the Glen Head students who worked so hard and read so many new and exciting books during this 2020 Reading Celebration. Please keep it up throughout the school year! Also, many thanks to the fifth grade art students that made the "On Your Mark, Get Set…Read” banner. Last but not least, thank you to the faculty and staff who enacted an adorable skit based on the children’s book, “Tacky and the Winter Games” by Helen Lester and all of the teachers including librarian, Ms. Christine Kingsley, for orchestrating such an amazing 2020 Glen Head Reading Celebration.
