Superintendent Dr. Peter Giarrizzo is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher Zublionis, as the next Assistant Superintendent for Instruction of the North Shore Schools, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Peter Giarrizzo said, “Dr. Zublionis immediately emerged as a top candidate throughout the process. He is a thoughtful and intelligent leader whose unique experiences at the elementary, middle, and high school levels position him to support rich and challenging experiences for all learners. I am excited to partner with Chris to bring our strategic plan to life and our schools to the next level of distinction.”
“I am tremendously excited to begin working in this new capacity in such a forward thinking school district,” said Dr. Zublionis. “North Shore’s innovative faculty and administrative team along with its supportive Board of Education and superintendent create a special experience for students and families.”
Dr. Zublionis is currently the principal of Sea Cliff Elementary School in North Shore. He received his tenure as principal in July 2014. During his seven years, Dr. Zublionis fostered a school-wide vision of “Building a Better World” and played an integral role in the development and implementation of the Shared Valued Outcomes. He has and currently leads the Teaching and Learning Oversight Committee with Mr. Rob Chlebicki, the current Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.
His prior administrative experience includes serving as a tenured Director of Social Studies at North Shore High School. “Through my experiences in curriculum development, facilitating professional development, and creating performance-based assessments with faculty, I have developed both an understanding and appreciation of the culture and direction of this district.”
For eight years prior to his work as an administrator, Dr. Zublionis worked as a middle school social studies teacher, coach and student government advisor at the Syosset Central School District and spent a year teaching in West Babylon.
Dr. Zublionis earned his Doctor of Education degree in 2016 from Columbia University-Teachers College. His dissertation research focused on Inclusive Civic Education, and is entitled, “Normalizing Difference in the Creation of Civic Learning Opportunities.” In addition, he has worked as a teacher educator with The New York City Teaching Fellows at Pace University and as an instructor in the Social Studies Department at Teachers College, Columbia University. “These experiences have helped me to develop a strong skill set in empowering teachers to discover and innovate best practices.” In addition, Dr. Zublionis holds a Master of Arts degree (2004) in social studies from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts degree (2000) in history and education.
Dr. Giarrizzo stated, “Consistent with our Shared Valued Outcomes, Chris’ experiences as principal of Sea Cliff Elementary School have proven that he is an innovator and problem-solver who believes in a collaborative approach to working with students, teachers, administrators, parents and our community. A comprehensive and collaborative search for a new principal for Sea Cliff Elementary will commence immediately with Chris and I co-leading that search.”
At the March 14, 2019 North Shore Board of Education meeting, Dr. Christopher Zublionis, Ed.D, was formally appointed Assistant Superintendent of Instruction (see BOE video!). The district would like to thank Mr. Robert Chlebicki for his many years of service. We are grateful for all of his contributions to the North Shore Schools and wish him well upon his retirement at the end of the school year.
