Glen Head Reading Celebration Comes To A Close
The annual Glen Head School Reading Celebration came to a close on Friday, January 25, 2019. This year, the theme was "Reading Lifts Us Up”. Principal Nimmo stated at the opening ceremony that, “Books can lift us up, bring inspiration, and joy to our everyday lives. The power of words is like no other. They can move you, build you up, and give you the power to achieve anything and all things! They have the power to lift OTHERS through a compliment, thoughtful card or letter, even the lyrics of a song dedicated to a friend. We can lift each other up, be there to support one another, and use kind words to help someone soar!
To everyone’s delight, award winning guest author/illustrator Kathryn Otoshi visited the Glen Head School during the Reading Celebration. Ms. Otoshi presented her character-building books Zero (self-esteem), One (anti-bullying), and Two(Friendship), which encourage community building. Additionally, Kathryn Otoshi shared the vibrant illustrations in her book, Beautiful Hands, reminding us of the world we create and the beautiful ways we lift each other up each day. Additionally, she asked the students and faculty to stand up and take the “Kindness Pledge” with her and at more than 100,000 students around the United States. What will you beautiful hands create today?
Congratulations to all of the Glen Head students who worked so hard and read so many new and exciting books during this 2019 Reading Celebration. Please keep it up throughout the school year! Additionally, thank you to the faculty and staff who presented an adorable skit and the students who created beautiful banners.
