Vikings Football Team Receives Howie Voghts Memorial Trophy from the Nassau County Football Coaches Association
Coach Dan Agovino receives Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week
The 2019 season was an amazing turnaround for the North Shore Vikings Varsity Football Team. Coach Dan Agovino said, “In recognition for improving from a 2-6 to 8-2 season, the Vikings received the Howie Voghts Memorial Trophy from the Nassau County Football Coaches Association. This award is chosen by a vote of four nominated teams from their respected conferences.”
Congratulations go to the following members of the Vikings Football team and their coaches: Will Scarola, Jack Ledden, Aiden Mandell, Lenny Scarola, Michael Cristofari, Brandon Centeno, Forrest Demetri, Zeke Hert, James DeSimone, Maximo Marra, Phillip La Rosa, Michael Russo, Andrew Jarkow, Gianni Abouelhassan, Jackson Cooperman, Ryan Murphy, Luke Kenny, Trevor Kunkel, Ian Roach, Oliver Palone, Louis Lavenda, Lorenzo Recine, Anthony Caprarella, Christopher Damphouse, Andrew Franco, and Jake Papalcure.
Earlier this season, the Vikings were also crowned “Big Four” champions after defeating Lynbrook in the playoffs. In addition, the football teams was also ranked in the top 10 Small School Newsday Poll.
But, that’s not all! The New York Giants and Gatorade selected Mr. Daniel Agovino of North Shore High School as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 10 of the 2019 season. A $2,000 check was granted to North Shore High School’s football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. Coach Agovino also received a certificate of recognition signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Giants head coach Pat Shurmur, and was acknowledged with an in-stadium announcement when the Giants hosted the Green Bay Packers on December 1, 2019. He will also be invited to attend a dinner hosted by the Giants at MetLife Stadium in the Spring with the other winners, and will be invited with their teams to a Giants preseason game in 2020!
