Important Safety & Security Community Update, Monday, March 26, 2018
North Shore High School, 7:30 PM

Dear North Shore Community,
The safety of your children is my primary concern. On Monday, March 26, 2018, I led an important Safety & Security meeting at North Shore High School that was open to the North Shore community. I was joined by Nassau County (POP) Officers Hedgecock and Brock. ALL community members were welcome and encouraged to attend.
The meeting consisted of two parts:
Part I:  7:30-8 PM - Presentation Regarding Safety and Security in the North Shore Schools (in the High School Theatre)

  • Current Safety & Security Measures at the North Shore School District
  • Additional Safety and Security Measures Planned for the Short-Term and in the Future

Part II:  8-8:30 PM -Organized “Small Group” Discussions (in the High School Cafeteria)
These small group forums helped to ensure that your voices were heard and information was gathered for me to review following this event. Participants had an opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns, and/or questions in small groups facilitated by our administrators.
To begin, everyone in the discussion groups did the following:

  • Introduced themselves (e.g., name, town of residence, and any children in our schools)
  • Stated their main reason for attending tonight

The following questions were discussed in each group:
1.   As parents, guardians, and community members, what thoughts/opinions do you have that would enhance the safety of our children in an emergency?
2.   What can the school district do to better assure confidence in our ability to keep our children and staff safe?
3.   What feedback do you have from your children to share?
4.   What are you still anxious about? How can we help?
Thank you to everyone in the community who joined us at this important safety and security presentation. Additionally, thank you again to the many parents and community members who stayed to participate in the small group discussions. They were excellent and your voices were heard. We greatly appreciate all of your suggestions, thoughts, and opinions. I will be reviewing and sharing this vital information.
Best Regards,
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
