Glen Head Bike Rodeo
2nd Annual Glen Head Bike Rodeo
On Saturday, April 21, 2018, the Glen Head School PTO, Glen Head/Glenwood Landing Boys Scouts and the Glen Head Community Youth Center all worked together to present a AAA Bike Rodeo. It was held in the Glen Head School parking lot on Saturday from 9:00 - 11:00 AM.
The program focused on bicycle safety. Students brought their own bicycles and helmets and completed a variety of station activities including:
- Checking tire pressure
- Helmet adjustments
- Hand signal lessons
- Start and stop techniques
- Obstacle course maneuvering
In addition to the stations, students had the opportunity to ride laps around Glen Head School led by Principal Lori Nimmo. They practiced some of the skills presented in the program while accompanied by an adult. The bike route began at the Glen Head School parking lot and then headed east on School Street to Cherry Street. Riders then biked south on Cherry Street and then west on Prospect Street. The route end at the school playground where students went directly behind the school building and returned to the crosswalk on School Street.
Principal Lori Nimmo thanked everyone in the community for their support and hoped that all of the students participating learned a lot about bicycle safety and had a wonderful time! Many thanks to the Glen Head School PTO, Glen Head/Glenwood Landing Boys Scouts, the Glen Head Community Youth Center, and Glen Head parents who offered their assistance in making this day successful. Additionally, a big “thank you” to Road Runner Bike Shop in Glen Cove and AAA who donated three bike helmets that were raffled off during the event.
