Third Annual Vikings Volleyball Faculty Appreciation Match
On Wednesday, September 27th, the Spiking Vikings hosted their 3rd Annual Faculty Appreciation Match versus Glen Cove. Each year, members of the Varsity Volleyball Team select a faculty member to honor before the match. Each of the athletes invite the teachers to the court and present them with a certificate and gift of appreciation, while a few word of appreciation are given. The athletes and teachers alike look forward to seeing each other again outside of the classroom and enjoy watching the match. Congratulations to the Vikings who won in three straight sets over visitors Glen Cove.
Viking Volleyball Season Recap
In addition, the 2016 Women's Varsity Volleyball season is well under way. Through intense heat, the Vikings started their season with a 3 and 0 record in conference A2. In the first match of the season, the women won in three straight games over Glen Cove. Next on tap was Calhoun High School. The Vikings and the Colts traded wins in the first four games of the match. In the fifth game, the Vikings turned up the heat some more and came away with the win. Finally, the Vikings met up with Plainedge High School. With two losses in the the first two games of the match, the Vikings changed it up and fought back against a very strong Red Devil squad. Coach Tracy Iacovelli said, “Through the leadership of Captain Meaghan Kearney, three-year starter Milagros Buschfrers and rookie setter Katie Ryan, the Vikings find themselves off to a very good start.” Go Vikings!
