Dear North Shore Parents, Community Members, and Faculty,

By now, you have most likely heard the news regarding the school budget vote announced by Governor Cuomo over the weekend. Today, in this budget question of the day, I want to clarify for you the Executive Order that was announced by Governor Cuomo regarding the extended deadline for mail in (only) absentee ballots to 5 pm on June 16, 2020. Please see below:

Q. Dr. G, did I hear correctly that Governor Cuomo extended the absentee ballot deadline for mail in ballots to June 16, 2020 at 5 pm? When are hand delivered ballots due?
A. Yes. Yesterday, Governor Cuomo by Executive Order announced that to be counted, the school budget ballots can be hand delivered through Tuesday, June 9, 2020 by 5 pm, and received by mail only through Tuesday, June 16, 2020 by 5 pm to the school district.  Ballots may not be distributed after the June 9, 2020 deadline has passed.
Q. Can you tell me where the absentee ballot box at the Central Office is?
A. Yes. We want to remind our community that hand delivered absentee ballots received after 5 pm on June 9, 2020 will not be counted. There is an absentee ballot box located in the mail slot of the front door (facing Sea Cliff School) of the Central Office at 112 Franklin Avenue, Sea Cliff. There are signs on the front door clearly labeling the ballot box. You can drop them off at anytime day or night prior to the deadline. We have security cameras outside and inside the building monitoring all activity so your ballot is secure. As mentioned, we will also be accepting absentee ballots in the mail only through June 16, 2020 by 5 pm.
Q. Is there going to be a K-8 Student Vote?
A. Yes. We are currently working on topics for the annual K-8 Student Vote. Our principals will be emailing our families tomorrow about the respective school topics that our students will be voting on and how they can submit their absentee ballots for the annual K-8 Student Vote. The deadline will be June 16, 2020 at 5 pm. For over a decade, students of the North Shore Schools have been participating in the K-8 Student Vote and learning about the voting process and their civic duties as part of the social studies curriculum. Topics in the past have included field day themes.
Additionally, I will be hosting a virtual Community Budget Meeting for all residents tonight, June 8, 2020, at 7 pm for anyone who still has questions about the two Propositions and Election of Trustees on the ballot. These are informal meetings and questions can be asked. Please see the link and call in number below. It will also be posted to the school homepage at
