Buildings and Grounds

Mission Statement

The Buildings and Grounds department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of seven buildings and several out buildings totaling 520,000 square feet and over 65 acres of grounds. We are committed to providing a clean and safe environment for the students, faculty and staff. 

The North Shore Buildings and Grounds Department will work closely with BBS Architects, Landscape Architects & Engineers and Savin Engineers PC, Construction Managers. We will meet weekly with all of the contractors to keep the projects moving forward and have them completed on time. The Construction Steering Committee will meet monthly or more as needed to keep the Board of Education up to date on our progress.

The Buildings and Grounds staff will also work diligently towards completing all of the projects outlined in the 2017-2018 budget. It is our goal to utilize the summer months to complete as much work as possible. This will be in conjunction with the normal summer cleaning of all of the building to ready them for the next school year.

Glen Head Elementary

  • Area Rugs replaced in selected rooms
  • Selected Door Replacement
  • Classroom shade replacement in selected rooms
  • Window balance replacement in selected rooms
  • New char broiler installed in Kitchen – In Design
  • Chemical exposure shower installed in Custodian’s area
  • Visitor Management System at Security Station

Glenwood Elementary School

  • Carpet replacement in selected room
  • Classroom shade replacement in selected rooms
  • Fuel management system installed on Gasoline Pump to track fuel dispensing
  • Window balance replacement in selected rooms
  • Chemical exposure shower installed in Custodian’s area
  • Visitor Management System at Security Station
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Air Conditioning installation in Auditorium- In Design
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Air Conditioning installation in Library- In Design

Sea Cliff Elementary School

  • Floor structure replacement and new floor installed
  • Classroom shade replacement in selected rooms
  • Shades installed on (2) skylights to control lighting during presentations
  • Hand Dryers replaced in selected bathrooms
  • Removal of Beech Tree on front lawn
  • Window balance replacement in selected rooms
  • Main Entrance doors replaced
  • Hemlock trees removed from playground and new Green Giant bushes installed in their place  
  • Septic system replacement
  • Visitor Management System at Security Station
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Air Conditioning installation in Cafeteria- In Design
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Exhaust fans installed in the stairwells- In Design
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Operable windows installed in the halls – In Design 

Middle School

  • Install materials to improve sound deadening between music lab and adjacent practice rooms
  • Concrete installation by Kissam Lane fence gate
  • Gym interior door replacement (Boys locker room)
  • Shades replacement in selected rooms
  • Key card reader installation on selected exterior entrances
  • Selected fencing and railing replacement as needed
  • Visitor Management System at Security Station
  • Capital Reserve (for construction in future) – Air Conditioning installation in Cafeteria

High School

  • Partial Cafeteria table & chair replacement
  • Shower repairs in Boys Locker room
  • Classroom blind replacement in selected rooms
  • Public Address system upgrades in Gymnasium
  • Fuel management system installed on Diesel Pump to track fuel dispensing
  • Cafeteria Courtyard ceiling repair and painting
  • Split Air Conditioning units installed in two newly established Network Operation rooms
  • Mansard roof panel replacement on Library and Gym. Panel replacement on two roof penthouses and exterior column covers installed exterior of the theater.

  • 18-19 Budget (for construction in the future) – Duct work replacement in cafeteria (To be done in tandem with ceiling work)- In Design
