NS High School 2017 Moving Up Ceremony
Superintendent Melnick Presented with Beautiful Painting of the Victorian Communications Center

On Friday, June 2, 2017, Principal Albert Cousins led the 76th Moving Up Day Ceremony at North Shore High School, a North Shore tradition since 1941. The high school gym was filled with students, proud parents, families, and friends to watch this memorable ceremony which included a presentation to Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick.

To a loud round of applause, Principal Cousins for the first time publicly announced the school Valedictorian, Kathryn Feehan, and the Salutatorian, Donald Ahrens. Dressed in their grade colors, the students wore specially designed “Moving Up” t-shirts designed by teacher Laura Green. One of the highlights of the ceremony was a tribute to Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick by Board President Toni Labatte. Dr. Melnick was presented with a plaque and beautiful drawing in colored pencil and watercolor of the Victorian Communications Center created by art student Milagros Buschfrers. In addition, the 2017 Class Yearbook was dedicated to beloved teacher, Mr. Brian Rodahan.

Then the juniors performed their musical tribute followed by the senior response. The traditional Weaving Ceremony followed as seniors made their way to the front of the gymnasium (dressed in all white) while the juniors (in yellow), sophomores (in blue), the freshman (in green). To conclude, the seniors formed the line for the gauntlet for the annual Tapping Ceremony. North Shore alumni, Jacob Abramowitz, walked up and down as the crowd watch excitedly to see who would be chosen to receive the Faculty Honor Award. Frankie-Lynne Conklin was selected to continue this prestigious tradition.

Congratulations to all of students and the graduating Class of 2017!  Many thanks to all of those who participated including students and teachers in the three grades and the North Shore Orchestra under the direction of Mr. Jason Domingo. Afterwards, there was a fantastic “Celebration Carnival” hosted by the HS PTO filled with games, food, and fun for everyone to enjoy! Thank you to all of the parents who worked so hard to make this day so memorable.
