A Wonderful Surprise Opera in Glen Head Cafeteria

This June 2017, all students, faculty, and staff had a special treat served up in the Glen Head School kitchen. The cafeteria was decorated with red and white tablecloths as Principal Lori Nimmo organized a great surprise to all of her students. She staged an “Opera in the Cafeteria” performance during lunchtime including a professional opera singer!

Like every day, students came into the Glen Head School cafeteria ready to eat their lunches and were not expecting a special concert! They either stood on line to order their food or sat down at the tables to eat their sandwiches (or meals). The tables were adorned with special red and white tablecloths and the devoted Food Service Staff had prepared a special “Italian” whole-wheat pasta and Bolognese meal to the delight of the children. After walking around the cafeteria asking the students of each grade if they wanted cheese or pepper on their pasta, three opera singers surprised the children by breaking into song!

At first, you could see their faces filled with amazement - smiling as they heard each of the singers masterfully perform their solos before harmonizing together! The students clapped and gave the performers a standing ovation! It was a day that they will always remember! One student even asked Principal Nimmo, “If every Tuesday can have Opera in the Cafeteria!”

Many thanks to everyone who performed and helped orchestrate this special cultural and entertaining lunchtime event! Bravo!
